Traditional Easter Games and Some New Easter Activities for Children – Part II

Spring is a wonderful time of the year. Not only does it herald the return of sunshine and warmth, but it also brings one of the biggest holidays: Easter! Easter is loved by both adults and children. Adults get to visit with friends and family and eat great food, while children get to go hunting for eggs left by Easter Bunny and receive fun presents. And though the egg hunt is a really great, traditional activity, it is unfortunately not enough to keep the kids happy and busy all Easter Sunday.
Luckily, there are other activities and games you could put together to keep children entertained. So here are some fun Easter activities to keep the kids happy!
Easter Egg Piñata
Pinatas come in all shapes, sizes, and themes, and luckily that includes themes that are appropriate for Easter! Easter is a big holiday, so your local party goods store is sure to have piñatas that are egg, bunny, duck, or chick shaped. Or if you don’t want to buy one pre-made, you could always make your own into any shape you desire. Once you have your piñata, fill it with Easter candy. This can include candy eggs, jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, or something else holiday themed. Or, if you’re worried this is too much sugar, you could mix in some little Easter stuffed animals, like stuffed chicks, plush baby ducks, or stuffed bunnies.
Before actually having the kids take turns trying to break the piñata, you have to set it up. Remember that you must have it at a safe height, because if the objects inside fall from too high of a height there could be an injury. Also, attach it to something sturdy so the whole structure doesn’t come down, because you don’t want the piñata itself falling down and hitting someone. Just remember these tips and you’ll have a fun, safe way to entertain everyone.
Pin the Chick on the Egg
While we’re all aware of the game pin the tail on the donkey, it pays to remember that there are other holiday variations. Pin the chick on the egg is one of these variations. To create, all you need to do is draw an egg on a piece of cardboard. To make it look nicer, you could paint the egg, or cover it with some tissue paper. Then, tape some tweed on the back of the egg so that you have a small hoop to hang the cardboard with. Or you could use hooks you already have for paintings and frames. Hang it someplace that works for you. Some good places are the inside of a door, like the front door or a basement door. Then all you need is the chicks. Get a few small plush chicks, put tape on their bottoms or beak, and lie them down in a box and you are ready for the game.
Obviously, the game is almost the same as pin the tail on the donkey. Tie a blindfold around the first contestants eyes, a small piece of cloth or a clean dishtowel will often work find, and spin them around until they are disoriented. Then tell them they have to find the egg, and pin the chick to its top. Pinned correctly, and it looks like the chick is coming out of the top of the egg. Let the other kids cheer them on and yell out guidance as they try to pin the chick. This game has the advantage of being easy to play and set up, and can keep the kids entertained for a fair amount of time. For a prize, you could give the little chick to the child who manages to pin it correctly at the top of the egg.
So there you go! These two fun and simple to set up games will keep the children at your Easter gathering happy and entertained. Not only will these activities be fun for everyone to watch, but they will also create memories of a great holiday that these children will remember for years to come. Happy Easter!

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Big Plush Bear and the Grizzly Bear Diet
A big plush bear should have a place in every child’s life. They are after all, the best friend and companion anyone could ever ask for. Much like a dog or cat are considered treasured members of the family, if a child’s big plush bear should ever become ‘lost’ or misplaced, panic will set in, in addition to great apprehension on the child’s part when it comes time for it to be washed.
In 2007, the University of Alberta conducted a new study on the Alberta grizzly bear to determine what kinds of food the animal was eating and what its activity patterns were. It was the most comprehensive research ever done in Canada on what grizzlies eat. Co-author of the study, Dr. Mark Boyce, remarked: “Alberta bears have remarkably diverse diets. They’ll eat just about anything.”
Over a period of three years, researchers analyzed the feces of 18 grizzly bears and also used GPS (global positioning system) for tracking. In a 24 hour period, they discovered that grizzlies accomplish lots of activities. While there is a great deal of knowledge about what bears living in mountain areas feed on, there is not as much known about the grizzly bear diet when they live in boreal forests that are also used by humans. In addition to looking at what the bears were eating, the study also examined five activities they used to find food regardless of whether they were eating fruit, flowers, insects, plants, or other animals.
According to Dr. Boyce, “the diverse diet of the Alberta grizzly bear helps cushion them against climate change and other vagaries of the environment.” The team of researchers discovered that grizzlies living in the foothills were very effective in killing both moose and deer. They were most adept at killing moose calves during the spring when other types of food such as berries, were not yet available. In comparison, bears living in the mountains were mostly vegetarian.
Forty different food items were identified by researchers and each was examined so as to determine patterns of use depending on the season. The food was also looked at closely so as to determine the differences – if any – between the foothill and mountain environments. During early spring, the grizzly diet consisted mostly of the root of sweet vetch plants while in late spring, they fed on hooved animals (like moose and deer); 83 percent of the time, the bears fed on moose especially newborns (54 percent). White tailed and mule deer were consumed 16 percent of the time while elk was eaten just 1 percent of the time. The grizzlies also ate insects (mostly ants), rodents and birds. In early summer, they ate a great deal of green vegetation in addition to ripe fruit such as berries in early August.
In terms of activity, bears living on eastern slopes were much more active in the morning and evening in comparison to bears living in Banff National Park where activity was mostly nocturnal and coming into contact with humans was more prevalent.
A big plush bear has no food habits to speak of although their owner may require them to attend a tea party or two on occasion. Coming in to contact with humans, is of course, the mainstay of a big plush bear so unlike the real thing, they are quite used to this activity on a daily basis.

Like the real thing, the plush white tiger is not something you see everyday. Contrary to popular belief, white tigers are not a sub-species [of the tiger], but rather, get their unusual coloring from a recessive gene. Another wild cat that isn’t on everyone’s radar, so to speak, is the margay. Sometimes referred to as a tiger cat, it’s very rare weighing no more than 7 pounds. Margay’s make their home in the rainforests of Mexico and Central and South America (east of the Andes mountains).

With life size plush toys, a whole new way to play is immediately opened up for a child; no more pretending a lion or tiger is about to pounce in their make-believe jungle, but rather, they can have a soft toy that is almost as big as the real thing. Life Size Stuffed Animals and The Influence of Women on Teddy Bears
Life size stuffed animals are exactly what you think they are: soft toys that are big as the real thing. Just imagine a plush black bear that’s 7.5 feet long and as wide as a queen sized bed – from nose to tail, the real thing can reach lengths of 7 feet. n the first half of the 20th century, there were many women (designers, managers, and owners) that had a direct influence on the teddy bear industry. This, at a time, when in Britain women over thirty had just been given the right to vote.

Large Teddy Bears and British Teddy Manufacturers
Large teddy bears are a staple of every child’s bedroom and/or playroom. Because of their popularity and ability to transport you right back to when you were young, you may find them in a few adult bedrooms as well. The Harwin & Co. Ltd. were a British producer of top quality teddy bears. It was founded by G.W. Large Plush Toys and the Most Famous of all Teddy Bear’s
Very few of us can say that at one time or another, we didn’t have a favorite soft toy; whether it was a teddy bear or a frog, it was a treasured companion. Large plush toys (and even the smaller versions) really are staples of childhood – without them, growing up just wouldn’t be quite the same. Besides the Steiff company, which was responsible for the creation of the first teddy bear, there were others that followed in their footsteps that also produced top quality soft toys.

Huge Plush Stuffed Animal and the Beginning of Soft Toys

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Huge Plush Stuffed Animal and the Beginning of Soft Toys
When you decide to purchase a huge plush stuffed animal, you’re making an investment in a toy that will be around for years if that’s what you choose. A huge plush stuffed animal is nothing short of unique in the world of soft toys and as is the case, it should always be treated as such.
While history has shown that dolls have been around at least since the time of the ancient Romans and Egyptians, it wasn’t until about 1900, when the idea for soft dolls came about.
Käthe Kruse had trained as an actress in Berlin before she married sculptor Max Kruse. So as to be in keeping with lives of contemporary children and many of the art movements of the time, she single- handedly modernized the dolls appearance. She developed her own doll after being less than enthusiastic about the types of frail, bisque dolls, her daughters were given to play with.
With Kruse’s understanding and experience with children along with her ability to improvise and appreciate modern sculpture, she started her first doll with towel that was knotted and filled with sand to make a body. A potato was used for the head and the features were etched in by using the charred end of a matchstick. With the use of images that could be seen of cherubs in Renaissance paintings in addition to inspiration from her seven children, Kruse went on to develop her dolls by using muslin as the casing for the body and filled them with sawdust and wood shavings. Her intention was to produce natural, simple looking dolls which would be very different from the lavish ones that were being produced by famous dollmakers; Kruse wanted to give her new dolls to her own children so they could have the sensation of holding a real baby.
Over time, Kruse was able to treat the muslin and form it in two parts – into the shapes of a face and back of the head. They were then filled with wadding when fastened together. Every dolls face was hand painted for a natural looking effect and a flexible wire base made up the body. Ultimately, Kruse’s process led to a brand new simplicity and dimension in doll design, with the end result being a soft and natural looking doll.
At the same time Kruse was perfecting her dolls, Germany’s Margarete Steiff was making soft animals and dolls. In 1894, she began making felt dolls by using cut-offs from a nearby factory. That eventually led to rubber hedgehogs that came in four sizes which had felt, human-like bodies.
Ultimately, with the use of felt and muslin, the soft doll was born despite the fact that dolls were still being produced at the same time that were made of materials that were hard to the touch and not very durable.
Without a doubt, a huge plush stuffed animal is soft to the touch. So much so, in fact, it makes cuddling up to one all the more enjoyable. It’s difficult to imagine a huge plush stuffed animal being made out of anything but soft material, but like the first dolls before it, it’s always a possibility.

Any child that has not had the pleasure of having a huge teddy bear, is at a distinct disadvantage to those that have. The Plush White Tiger and an Odd Member of The Cat Family

Koala Stuffed Animal and All About The Real Thing
The koala stuffed animal ranks right up there as one of the most popular soft toys amongst what is an enormous variety from which to choose. While the koala stuffed animal is often mistaken for a bear, that couldn’t be further from the truth. While it’s true the koala looks like a teddy bear, it’s not a bear at all. Like kangaroos, they are marsupials which means they have a pouch where their young both feed and grow.

Stuffed Giant Toys and The Teddy Bear Industry in The U.S
In the world of soft toys, there is so much to choose from that it can make deciding on which one to pick, a daunting task. That problem should be easily solved when you look to stuffed giant toys as your choice. The United States was booming in the early 1920s; new businesses popped up every day in a place where both enterprise and innovation were strongly encouraged. Loads of immigrants came to what was deemed the Land of Opportunity.

Life Size Plush and the Resurgence of the Steiff Bear

Harwin in 1914 in response to the import ban on German goods (where the first teddy bear was produced) after the declaration of World War I.

Dog Toys – Have Fun With Your Playful Pooch
‘Tis the season to buy presents for your puppies. Just like the kids, your pets know the holidays are here. They see the buzz in the house. They small all the great holiday food that’s being cooked and they realize there’s something interesting under the tree. On Christmas day, they also see that the other kids in the family are ripping things open and getting toys and treats, and if there’s not something for them, they are wondering why they got overlooked.
Don’t forget the four-legged family members this year. Don’t know what to get? Here’s a list of some of the more popular toys for canines.
Tug and Throw Dog Toys – There are a lot of these toys on the market. Some parts of them are heavy-duty rubber material, some parts are rope. Both parts are lots of fun for your pooch. You can throw the toy for them to fetch, then the two of you can get down and enjoy a good old fashioned game of tug of war.
Plush Dog Toys – There’s nothing like a good toy to shake around and beat up in your dogs eyes. This is probably the reason there are a lot of stuffed dog toys on the market, from sporting themes to toys that look like other animals, to the bark-a-rita, which is a stuffed toy that looks like a topped off margarita glass, there are all sorts of fun stuffed toys for your pup. If you want to stick with a holiday theme, you will likely be able to find a lot of toys that are wearing Santa hats, holding candy canes, or even a snowman plush toy for your pooch.
Don’t forget the tasty goodies!
Just like the kids like to see what kinds of yummy goodies are in their stockings so too your dogs will want to know what kind of tasty treats they’re getting this holiday season.
From rawhide chewies to snacks that look like Christmas cookies or candy pieces, there is no end to the options when you want to create a culinary wonderland for your pet. If you want to completely do it right, you can even get a stocking just for your pet, where Santa can leave all their goodies.
A bit of a warning on this front through; just like the kids eating too much candy after Halloween, the dog eating too many treats at the holidays is not a good idea.
While you may want to give him extras, as you enjoy a festive time, many dog tummies are sensitive, and too much of those rich treats can make them sick. Not to mention they will likely already be handed a few pieces of people food during the holiday meal.
Make sure to keep an eye on what your pet is eating and keep it in moderation. While it’s fun to give them gifts, you can also give them the treats over a long time period and keep them healthy and happy.
Jesse Akre, author, and owner of several sites offers his thoughts on buying soft and lavish dog beds, cozy dog houses and versatile dog furniture.

Reindeer Plush
Like with bat plush toys and Halloween, reindeer plush aren’t strictly reserved for making an appearance at Christmas; reindeer plush deserve to be around at all times of the year just like any other stuffed animal.
Reindeer, which are sometimes called caribou, are members of the deer family (which also includes moose and elk). They can be found living in Arctic tundra’s, forests and mountains of Canada, Alaska, Scandinavia, Russia, and Northern China. Wild caribou were tamed in Eurasia in the southern Altai mountain region some 5,000 years ago according to some anthropological studies. Any domesticated reindeer today, are ancestors from that stock as when attempting to domesticate wild caribou now, it has failed. Modern reindeer are used to pull sleds and some are even saddled and ridden. Some are also used for commercial sales of meat and hides.
Reindeer stand about four feet tall and six feet wide and both males (called bulls) and females (called cows) have antlers, which is unlike most other deer species. Like other deer species, however, their antlers shed every year and then regrow. Adults can weigh up to 300 pounds. They have very sharp, broad hooves (which function much like snowshoes) which makes them strong runners and gives them the ability to travel long distances across snow and ice. They also have thick brown fur which not only insulates them from the cold, but also helps them float in water making them very good swimmers. They can live to about ten years of age in the wild.
Despite being referred to with different names in North America, both domestic reindeer and caribou are the same species no matter where they are in the world. However, different varieties of reindeer have been developed in different parts of the world based on conditions and human needs, which includes transportation. For example, Chukchis have a breed that seems to have been domesticated much longer than other species and while they are great for meat production, pulling sleds is not their strong suit. Wild reindeer are known for their long migrations in which they travel further north during the summer months so they can graze on fresh grass, moss, and lichen. In the winter months, they return to warmer climates in the south where they can seek shelter.
Reindeer plush toys shouldn’t be used in any way to pull sleds, unless of course, it’s reserved for doing so in your imagination. Like other preferred stuffed animals, reindeer plush are quite content to live a lie of leisure, enjoying cuddles and hugs every now and again and perhaps a good secret or two when the mood strikes you to confide in them.

How to Clean Delicate Stuffed Animals
Your children may love their plush toys, but every time they hug them all you can see is the dirt and germs being spread from their favorite toy. You know it’s time these stuffed animals get freshened up, but how do you do it without destroying your child’s favorite toy? Luckily, this isn’t as big as an undertaking as you think! With careful attention to any labels on the plush animals, and a calm perusal of what the toy is made out of, you can clean anyone’s stuffed animal without ruining it for good!
<b>Washing Machine and Dryer Method – Sturdier Toys</b>
Believe it or not, the majority of plush toys will survive a cycle in the washing machine. Still, this isn’t the case with them all, so you should pay careful attention to what their labels say. Most toy labels will say if the animal is not washer friendly. And if there is no label, then there is a good chance its safe by omission. Just don’t just treat the stuffed animal like it’s part of any old load of laundry. Use a delicate cycle with the cold water option, and use plenty of softener, so the toy doesn’t lose its hugable feel. Don’t overload the washer either with too many teddy bears or other stuffed toys at once. And when it’s time to go in the dryer, make sure to tumble dry low and add lots of dryer sheets, to avoid static.
<b>At Home Dry Clean Method – A Bit More Delicate Toys</b>
Many popular toys, such as stuffed dogs, teddy bears, and plush cats have their eyes and noses made out of plastic. Some of this plastic is susceptible to heat, and there’s the possibility that just throwing them in the washer and dryer could destroy the toy. If you have a stuffed animal that you’re not sure about, then use a home dry cleaning bag, such as Dryel or some other reliable brand from your local store. Put one or a few toys and put them in the dryer on low, as per the instructions on the label. This will allow them to come out smelling fresh, without chancing any tears from a destroyed toy that was once loved.
<b>Air Vacuum Method – For Delicate Toys in Need of a Serious Makeover</b>
Some toys are obviously delicate, yet this hasn’t stopped them from being put through the ringer. These “code red” toys need to be treated without water or heat. In fact, some of these toys can even be flammable, so putting them in the dryer is outright dangerous. Luckily, there’s another option for these delicate but dusty toys: the bag and vacuum method. Just put a few plush animals in a garbage bag, so that they fit loosely. Then, put the hose attachment on your vacuum at the bag opening and lock it with your hand. Turn on the vacuum and the dust will gently be sucked out. Don’t worry if they lose their shape through the suction; this is often only a temporary problem. Then, to freshen them up a little more you can squirt them with some fabric spray. Obviously, it’s important to only try this method on large or medium stuffed animals; those that are too small could get sucked up in to the vacuum.
<b>Hand Wash Method – The Delicate Measure for Delicate Toys</b>
If you have a delicate toy that you don’t dare take any chances with, then use the old fashioned way: wash them by hand. This allows you to be flexible. You can either wash the entire stuffed animal, or just scrub at the trouble spots. Say you have a stuffed dog, a good way to go about this would be to soak the stuffed animal in some water with detergent for about 10 to 20 minutes, then just scrub at the worst spots. When you’re done, make sure to rinse the dog thoroughly, wring out the water, then let the animal air dry. If you want to do the spot method, simply use a toothbrush with soft bristles to dip into water and detergent. This way you’ll only get the parts that are really dirty wet.
So as you can, no matter what kind of stuffed animal you have, there’s a method for getting it clean. Don’t give up on your favorite toys, they can be saved!
