I Love You Teddy Bear

Was there ever a time in your life when you turned and whispered “I love you teddy bear” to your most cherished companion? The teddy bear that was with you, in your crib, from the day you were born? The one you came home and cried to when you fell off your bike and scraped your knee on the sidewalk? The one that kept you company when you were forced to remain indoors after your contracted chicken pox? If you never told your teddy bear how you felt about him or her, that would be a surprise. After all, teddy bears all over the world are used to hearing “I love you teddy bear,” at one time or another in their long lives.
Children everywhere (and even some adults), have been in love with their teddy bears ever since they were innocently first created as felt pincushions to be given to family and friends as gifts. What began as nothing more than a small elephant Margarete Steiff made in felt from a do-it-yourself pattern she found in a popular German magazine, turned into the most iconic plush toy of all time.
Maragarete was so pleased with the result of her first felt pincushion she decided to make others to give away. When children saw their mothers’ elephant pincushions, they claimed them for themselves, loving their size and softness. Margarete received so many requests for the pincushions, on December 29, 1889, she decided to start selling them. What had begun as merely a dressmaking business, quickly turned into the sale of soft toys (including lions, dogs, camels, monkeys, and donkeys), which eventually made up the majority of sales at Margarete’s company; 5,170 elephants were sold in 1886.
The company moved to larger premises in 1889 and went on to produce its first catalogue in 1892 which showcased its entire range of ‘toy’ animal products. In the same year, the company applied for a patent “for the making of animals and other figures to serve as playthings.” The launch of the first Steiff bear also took place in 1892 which was just one of many animals available for purchase in a set. The little bear was a hugely popular character and soon became the most important in the animal set.
The Steiff bear had begun its journey to what we would eventually see perfected and established as the world’s most popular toy.
And so too began the idea that one could be in love with their plush toys, specifically with the teddy bear. Saying “I love you teddy bear” to your favorite plush toy is no more unusual than saying it to the family dog or cat. Like with them, children and adults form close and passionate attachments to particular soft toys and as is the case, the “I love you teddy bear” sentiment really isn’t unusual at all.

It would be simpler to get him the golf balls or hat, since you can’t get the wrong kind. But what if you want a less practical gift, or something cuter. Just add something extra to the gift, like a teddy bear with a tiny golf club, or wearing the hat that you bought. A good quality stuffed animal can liven up almost any present and add a personal touch that is also cute. If he owns a bulldog, then you could get him a stuffed one. If he likes cats, a plush kitten would be a great choice. He could display it in his den or office. It could bring a smile to his face in any location and is less likely to be ignored than a set of corkscrews or another necktie.

Suppose that you want to take him out to dinner at his favorite restaurant. This is a great idea, but just telling him that you are taking him out to dinner can be kind of dull. So get a gift card for the restaurant and place it in the paws of a cute stuffed animal, like a plush moose. If they have a favorite animal, you could pick that particular type. A plush dog, cat, dolphin, or lion is a good sentimental gift. This sort of gift can also make a great extra for Valentine’s Day. You could plan a romantic evening together and use the stuffed toy to let him know in a cute, sexy way. You could put a piece of your lingerie on a stuffed tiger and write a message like, “I’m ready for you, Tiger!” on a card for it to hold.
To sum this up, the best gifts for men have one thing in common, a personal touch. If you can show them through the gift that you understand and support their personality and interests, you are sure to have a hit present! Once you have picked something out, spice it up with great presentation to make it really special. If you use some imagination, you can both be thrilled with the gift exchange.

Sometimes it’s what’s inside that counts! And what’s inside a Teddy Bear Gift is what makes the Teddy so huggable! From the very first Teddy Bears, the stuffing used inside has been an important factor. Let’s explore those stuffings from the earliest to those used most often today.
Wood Wool Excelsior This strawlike substance was used for many years in the first Teddy Bears. It gave the bear a rigid feel and actually resisted dirt, but it was not washable. Today wood wool. which is actually made from wood slivers, is still sometimes used to stuff the muzzles of Teddy Bears.
Cotton Gin Waste During wartime, Teddy Bears often used an economical stuffing called ‘sub’, which was the waste from cotton mills. The general makeup of cotton gin waste was sticks, leaves, soil particles, and cotton lint. Silk stockings with runners or tears were also frequently cut up and used inside the Teddy Bear.
Kapok After WWI, soft fiber extracted from seed pods of the kapok tree became a popular alternative to use as stuffing for Teddy Bears. The pods of the kapok have seeds which are surrounded by a fluffy, yellowish soft fiber. While rather expensive, it gave a soft feeling similar to down, which encouraged bear hugs.
Shredded Plastic Foam This stuffing was not long lasting in use as it did not prove washable and when wet broke down into a sticky powder. There is a shredded soft memory foam that has elastic qualities which make for an interesting stuffing for Teddy Bears.
Plastic Pellets Today that shredded plastic has been turned into plastic pellets that give Teddy Bear Gifts a softer, floppier feel. They are sometimes mixed with polyester fiber fill to give the bear more additional weight so it can sit up more easily.
Polyester Fiber Fill This is the most common filling today. Premium fiberfill has a soft feeling, which makes it perfect for Teddy Bears for infants and small children. Sometimes cotton batting that is used in quilts has been successfully used for Teddy Bear stuffing.

When most of us think of animal wall art, there are images that come to mind like cartoon characters and fun loving friends of our childhood. In today’s lifestyle you can find jungle animals for the nursery to real life photos that can add drama to your living room or family room decorating theme. There are a multitude of topics, colors, textures and materials to turn your creative visions into your decorative reality.
Here are some items that can be grouped together or utilized by themselves to bring your imagination into a reality. These are some items that I have found that can be pictured in an animal motif. Wallpaper, wallpaper boarders, stickers, clocks, paintings, murals, tapestries, metal artwork, accents, plates and calendars.
There is an overwhelming selection of wallpaper, boarders, murals and stickers for the animal enthusiast. They are quick, affordable and easy to install solution for decorating. There are some stickers that can effortlessly be rearranged or removed and used again and again. Accent pieces bring the exotic and lively animal charm of the outside world into your home.
In my family room there are copper plated animal wall hooks that have become the focal point of my room. Another animal theme that I have placed on the walls in the same room is animal heads. These are not the real things but serve the same purpose. Above the fire place I have proudly hanging a deer head and in the two corners is a horse and elephant head. All of these pieces are made out of resin and there is faux fur on the deer. Most of my visitors take one look and ask the question are they real? What I answer depends on the visitor.
To perk up my bathroom walls I have used a border with incredibly vivid fish and dolphins to complete the look. In my kitchen I have placed artwork and decorative plates of roosters and chickens and on the light switchcovers continued with the same theme.
For ten years the princess of my house has been my cocker spaniel Clea. The entire wall has metal art work of cocker spaniels and in the center is a cocker spaniel calendar. This calendar besides being beautiful has all my activities and special dates to help me get through the day.
One of my closest friends has a daughter who is their only child. To say the least, the child for her age, has everything. I am aware that one of her favorite things is stuff animals. She is fortunate and has many. And it does not seem that she has a favorite one. I found a store that makes a stuffed animal wall mount that can be used as a decoration on the wall. This also can be taken down and played with as an easy to handle puppet. It seems to be a hit because I am still hearing about it!
National graphic is a magazine that I subscribe to. They came out with a fun and educational clock that hangs in my daughter’s nursery. It is a fully working clock that displays pictures of animals and on the hour announces an animal sound. It features the twelve most loved animals. This also came with an educational booklet that will grow with my child. It has detailed information about the animals and the child can add her or his own touch with colors.
Animal wall art is a whimsical or authentic way to add character and class to any room. It allows you to express who you are with ease and elegance. This touch maximizes its contribution to your home. You will be amazed on how animal wall art adds just the right personal touch. Watching the smile on kids’ face when they receive a gift is one of the joy of gifting. There are so many occasions we send gifts to kids. We send them gifts for their birthday and the holidays. We send them gifts to cheer them up when they are sick, and to reward them for doing well in school. In selecting gifts for kids, several criteria have to be considered. The gift should fit the age of the kid and is safe. It should also be fun and educational. This article provides some ideas on kids gifts.
1. Plush Animals:
For young kids a few months old and up, plush stuffed animals are most appropriate. These include our favorite teddy bear, duckling, lion, dog. You can find stuff animals that are not only soft and cuddly, but also can sing a tune. For example, you can find a plush duckling that sings “You are my Sunshine”. It is a great gift to let your kid know how much you love him/her.
2. Special Occasions Plush Animals:
These special themed plush animals are appropriate for older kids. For example, you can send a singing birthday bear that sings “Happy Birthday to You” to just about anyone, including adults. Other special occasions plush animals include the Feel Better Bear and Feel Better Frog. The plush bear arrives in a crutch, with bandage on his forehead. It wobbles as it walks and sings “I’m felling good”. They are most appropriate for kids recovering from a broken arm or leg, perhaps from a ball game. The kids will most certainly have a speedier recovery with the singing bear or frog tell them to do so.
3. Kids Gift Basket:
Kids love to have fun activities. For kids of nursery school age, you can send them a gift basket filled with a Crayola coloring and activity book, crayons, bubbles, an adorable teddy bear; and their favorite snacks. The basket should provide many hours of fun. For a more elaborate kids gift basket, you can send one that contains not only Crayola coloring book, Crayola crayons, and Crayola water colors paint set, but also contains game set, hand held travel game, jumbo porcupine ball, silly putty, and a plush white teddy bear. This fun filled gift basket is sure to brighten any kid’s day and keep him/her busy for a long time. In addition, the basket is filled with tasty snacks such as Cracker Jacks, chocolate chip cookies, jelly beans, and kids fortune cookies. The snacks will provide plenty of good munching.
4. Kids Care Package:
For kids over 6 years old, you can send them a kids activity care package. A big plush bear should have a place in every child’s life. They are after all, the best friend and companion anyone could ever ask for. Much like a dog or cat are considered treasured members of the family, if a child’s big plush bear should ever become ‘lost’ or misplaced, panic will set in, in addition to great apprehension on the child’s part when it comes time for it to be washed.
In 2007, the University of Alberta conducted a new study on the Alberta grizzly bear to determine what kinds of food the animal was eating and what its activity patterns were. It was the most comprehensive research ever done in Canada on what grizzlies eat. Co-author of the study, Dr. Mark Boyce, remarked: “Alberta bears have remarkably diverse diets. They’ll eat just about anything.”
Over a period of three years, researchers analyzed the feces of 18 grizzly bears and also used GPS (global positioning system) for tracking. In a 24 hour period, they discovered that grizzlies accomplish lots of activities. While there is a great deal of knowledge about what bears living in mountain areas feed on, there is not as much known about the grizzly bear diet when they live in boreal forests that are also used by humans. In addition to looking at what the bears were eating, the study also examined five activities they used to find food regardless of whether they were eating fruit, flowers, insects, plants, or other animals.
According to Dr. Boyce, “the diverse diet of the Alberta grizzly bear helps cushion them against climate change and other vagaries of the environment.” The team of researchers discovered that grizzlies living in the foothills were very effective in killing both moose and deer. They were most adept at killing moose calves during the spring when other types of food such as berries, were not yet available. In comparison, bears living in the mountains were mostly vegetarian.
Forty different food items were identified by researchers and each was examined so as to determine patterns of use depending on the season. The food was also looked at closely so as to determine the differences – if any – between the foothill and mountain environments. During early spring, the grizzly diet consisted mostly of the root of sweet vetch plants while in late spring, they fed on hooved animals (like moose and deer); 83 percent of the time, the bears fed on moose especially newborns (54 percent). White tailed and mule deer were consumed 16 percent of the time while elk was eaten just 1 percent of the time. The grizzlies also ate insects (mostly ants), rodents and birds. In early summer, they ate a great deal of green vegetation in addition to ripe fruit such as berries in early August.
In terms of activity, bears living on eastern slopes were much more active in the morning and evening in comparison to bears living in Banff National Park where activity was mostly nocturnal and coming into contact with humans was more prevalent.
A big plush bear has no food habits to speak of although their owner may require them to attend a tea party or two on occasion. Coming in to contact with humans, is of course, the mainstay of a big plush bear so unlike the real thing, they are quite used to this activity on a daily basis.

When you decide to purchase a huge plush stuffed animal, you’re making an investment in a toy that will be around for years if that’s what you choose. A huge plush stuffed animal is nothing short of unique in the world of soft toys and as is the case, it should always be treated as such.
While history has shown that dolls have been around at least since the time of the ancient Romans and Egyptians, it wasn’t until about 1900, when the idea for soft dolls came about.
Käthe Kruse had trained as an actress in Berlin before she married sculptor Max Kruse. So as to be in keeping with lives of contemporary children and many of the art movements of the time, she single- handedly modernized the dolls appearance. She developed her own doll after being less than enthusiastic about the types of frail, bisque dolls, her daughters were given to play with.
With Kruse’s understanding and experience with children along with her ability to improvise and appreciate modern sculpture, she started her first doll with towel that was knotted and filled with sand to make a body. A potato was used for the head and the features were etched in by using the charred end of a matchstick. With the use of images that could be seen of cherubs in Renaissance paintings in addition to inspiration from her seven children, Kruse went on to develop her dolls by using muslin as the casing for the body and filled them with sawdust and wood shavings. Her intention was to produce natural, simple looking dolls which would be very different from the lavish ones that were being produced by famous dollmakers; Kruse wanted to give her new dolls to her own children so they could have the sensation of holding a real baby.
Over time, Kruse was able to treat the muslin and form it in two parts – into the shapes of a face and back of the head. They were then filled with wadding when fastened together. Every dolls face was hand painted for a natural looking effect and a flexible wire base made up the body. Ultimately, Kruse’s process led to a brand new simplicity and dimension in doll design, with the end result being a soft and natural looking doll.
At the same time Kruse was perfecting her dolls, Germany’s Margarete Steiff was making soft animals and dolls. In 1894, she began making felt dolls by using cut-offs from a nearby factory. That eventually led to rubber hedgehogs that came in four sizes which had felt, human-like bodies.
Ultimately, with the use of felt and muslin, the soft doll was born despite the fact that dolls were still being produced at the same time that were made of materials that were hard to the touch and not very durable.
Without a doubt, a huge plush stuffed animal is soft to the touch. So much so, in fact, it makes cuddling up to one all the more enjoyable. It’s difficult to imagine a huge plush stuffed animal being made out of anything but soft material, but like the first dolls before it, it’s always a possibility.
