Plush Stuffed Dog

You would be hard pressed to find a dog lover or even a lover of stuffed animals, that doesn’t have at least one plush stuffed dog in their home. For those without dogs, but love the species, a plush stuffed dog or two will also certainly be found in their possession. A plush stuffed dog is hard to resist after all, and like the real thing, are much loved in the human world.

Like many animals, a dog is a wondrous mixture and combination of systems and organs which are responsible for carrying out specific jobs within the animal. In addition, these same systems and organs keep the dog running efficiently. While the anatomy of the dog is a vast subject, the consideration as well as how the dog moves, sees, smells, eats, breathes, and digests food, goes a long way in helping us understand why it’s built the way it is. Since the time when it had to look after itself in the wild, the domestic dog we know today hasn’t gone through that many changes; it’s still a carnivore and has adapted as such. Ultimately, the dog was designed so it would be able to run fast, capture and kill prey, and be a member of a pack. To this day, it still retains amazing senses of smell and hearing – both far superior to man’s.

Two of the most highly developed senses found in the dog are its hearing and its sense of smell. While dogs’ ears vary greatly in appearance, every one of them has excellent hearing and can detect high frequency sounds which are inaudible to humans.

Shapes of a dogs ears range from floppy (like on a Basset Hound) to pert, pricked ears of some Terrier’s. A breed like the Cocker Spaniel has floppy and hairy ears which merge into their head, while the French Bulldog has ears that are covered in short hair and stand up straight. While the outer ear of the dog varies from breed to breed, both the function and structure of the inner ear is the same in every dog.

The dogs sense of smell is one of its most remarkable features and they all have an innate desire to sniff everything – from people to places to things to other dogs. Their sense of smell is literally one million times more sensitive than ours and with it, it gives the dog all kinds of different information. In terms of scent recognition, a dog has 40 times the number of brain cells as compared to the number in a human. Because of this unique ability, dogs are often trained as sniffer dogs to help find bombs and drugs.

Besides a dogs ability to hear and smell, there are many other reasons to fall in love with these special animals; they offer unconditional love and devotion in addition to constant companionship that is often unmatched by anything or anyone else. For those that suffer from allergies or don’t have a lifestyle conducive to owning a pet, sometimes a plush stuffed dog makes a terrific stand-in. While it’s true a plush stuffed dog doesn’t have the hearing and smelling ability of the real thing, it too will give you all the love you could ever ask for.
