Why do children love plush toys? For one thing they are very soft and lovable. Also, they do not shed and are kid safe.
There are plush toys for every age from toddler to even teenagers! Is your child interested in dogs, cats, monkeys, dinosaurs or virtually any other animal? No problem – there is a plush toy to please any interest.
Plush toys make great gifts. And because they are reasonably priced, you can buy several without breaking the bank.

So you have made the decision to buy one or a few toys for your child? That is an excellent decision, plush toys are the best type of toy for children and are beneficial to a child’s development in so many ways. So where do you start? There are many things to consider, like what would be the best type of plush to buy, how big? How many? All of these will be answered in my endeavour to try and help you make the right decision for your first ever toy.
A good way to check what plush to buy can be to see what your child’s favourite television program is and one your child enjoys watching, maybe buying your child’s favourite television character will be best as your child already knows the face of a well-known plush toy, this makes it easier as it will be a familiar face and your child is going to be more likely to accept the toy without question, but if you buy an unknown or custom made plush your child may be shy around it or feel intimidated. Remember children see plush toys as people so when you introduce something new into a child’s life they can be weary or uncertain wither to like the toy so if the child finds it even slightly intimidating your child could possibly reject the plush toy.
How big of a plush toy should you buy? You don’t want one too big as that isn’t very practical, but you don’t want one too small as your child may not acknowledge such a small toy as a person. In my opinion children seem to react best to toys that are approximately 70% of the child’s size that way it is big enough to believable as a life size character but it is also small enough that it is convenient to take anywhere and there will be a small risk of losing a toy of this size. The last thing you want to do is lose a child’s plush as a child will see it as losing a friend which will upset and agitate them. The child will know if you have replaced the plush with an identical one too, it is just something children can do. They may associate the smell of the plush with that particular plush as smell is the most closely linked sense to memory.
How many plush toys should you buy? You don’t want to bombard you child with toys but if you only buy one your child may feel that the plush is lonely. A child likes to create a group of friends sort of like a social circle of friends which adults have, except adults have this circle with real people. In short I would say 4 or 5 plush toys.
I have just outlined the basic things to consider when buying your child’s first toy, but don’t forget that safety is by far the most important aspect, then consider how the toy looks and feels then look at the size and remember that you as a parent will know what’s best for the child.
